Past events re-capped: (Chris) 2nd Parking Lot Skills Practice (9/3) at Ronkonkoma train station with Mark Briganti and George Krivosta, went very well – this is not a teaching course, it is for you to practice your skills in a safe area under supervision.  Great open lot to practice on. 9/4Ronkonkoma Street fair – as reported by Josephine – was amazing – well received by the community, and the place was packed with people. Michael Murphy Museum tour (Nick-VP)– Thanks to Eva Casale of Team Eva for donating 25 Tickets to LI ABATE Members to visit this museum.  Dan Murphy was there to give us a personal tour and explained what happened to his son as well as Marcus Latrel (loan survivor) – It’s hard to explain how much of this museum there is to see, except to please visit it, you will learn so much about Michael Murphy, but also about the Navy seals – Josephine stated that “Murphys last message” got to her emotionally. Please visit.

Campout Re-Cap (Josephine-VP) 8-27- Our campout was a huge success – first time I chaired an event, and to say it was a learning experience, is something I will never forget.  I may even chair this event next year – Cheryl and Gary Hart went above and beyond – 3 months pre-prepping the event, and Gary cooked a lot of the food you all ate – People don’t really understand how much work and planning goes into an event like this.  It was very well attended – and you can read all about it in the newsletter and see all the pictures – I think I finally had some fun after the Rosie candlelight ceremony – Rosie’s family were there, and I think they could not believe how many lives Rosie touched.  Wayne did an amazing job on the all the banners and trophies – just wow! Thank you again to everyone who helped and volunteered – Great Job!

8:18 – Statement from a member in the audience: “Regarding those school bus cameras” Be aware that they are purposely stopped with no kids getting on or off, keeping their stop signs out – which keeps the cameras recording – and waiving you on!!!  Don’t’ fall for it, just sit there until they pull the stop sign camera in.  Once you get a ticket it’s hard to prove you were in the “Right” and that the bus driver waived you on.  I personally went over to the bus driver and TOLD her to put the stop sign off and shut her flashers off, since she was PARKED and not active picking up kids or dropping off.

Debbie added that if you get a ticket, contact Anthony Piccarillo’s office in Holbrook – he can assist anybody in Suffolk County.  Not sure who can assist with Nassau County.
